Meet the Committee

Martin Douglas – Chair
Hello my name is Martin Douglas and I am the chair of this charity run preschool. I am from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, born and bred, but have lived in Sandbach since 2015. I swam professionally up until the age of 37 and achieved the status of World and European Masters champion a few times. I am married with 5 children, 4 of which have been to this preschool. I work for MGD Rail Management Ltd, responsible for the design, build and commissioning of level crossings and Rail signalling works in the UK.  I enjoy spending time with the family, camping, being outdoors, music and keeping fit.

Sophie Douglas

I’m mummy to 5 great children aged between 6 and 13 years. I am a qualified nurse, working both in the community and in hospital, and fit shifts in around family life. We moved to Sandbach over a decade ago and have settled here very quickly. I became involved with the pre-school after 2 of my children attended here. I joined as a fund raising committee member, then the secretary in September 2015, and  have worked with the team to raise money to help, for example, buy new equipment, particularly at the moment to improve the outside area. I have handed over the role of secretary to Charlotte Edwards and have remained as a committee member.

Helen Brumby
Helen Brumby – Person Responsible to OFSTED and Safeguarding Committee Member
I had been volunteering as the Treasurer at St. Johns Pre-School for many years. I have now handed the position over to Justine Clack.  It is wonderful to be part of the team who work hard to ensure the Pre-School is the best it can be. My main roles are the safeguarding committee member and the person responsible to OFSTED. I will also be on hand to offer support to our new treasurer. I encourage the committee to fund raise so we can buy extra luxuries for the children and I am currently exploring the viability of a building extension at the rear of the preschool. All three of my children have been through the Pre-School and are now at high school. They have lots of wonderful memories of their time here and love to return for a visit whenever they can. When I’m not undertaking my role on the committee, I am a full time mum to my children and a part-time Architect.
 Ben Worsley – Committee Member
My name is Ben Worsley, I enjoy spending time with my family, going on holiday and watching Manchester United. I love my job, where I work as a Prison Officer for HM Prison and Probation Service. I like playing football and boxing in my spare time. I enjoy doing things for our community, from volunteering with local charities to skydiving for St Luke’s Hospice. I like to keep myself busy!
Liz Cockram – Fundraising Team
My daughter started pre-school in January 2015. I approached Hazel Hilton in the summer of 2014 to discuss whether Neve could attend, as she has a wide variety of additional needs – cognitive and physical. Hazel & the staff could not have been more helpful or welcoming and my daughter remained (very happily) at the pre-school until moving up to school in September 2016.
